Project Name: IGA Marketplace Darlinghurst

  • Location: 23-27 Oxford St Darlinghurst NSW
  • Client: Metcash
  • Amount: 1.5 million
  • Description: Complete refurbishment of an existing IGA supermarket spanning 2-off levels to create the new "Marketplace" concept.

This particular site featured an IGA supermarket previously but was chosen for the basis of the new IGA intiative, the “Marketplace” concept store. Spread over 2 levels, in its previous configuration the basement was used for stock storage & preparation, being coolrooms, freezers and prep rooms while the ground floor was used as the trading floor.
The new concept called for ground floor to remain the main trading floor while the basement was to be converted to feature a new Deli and Fresh Produce section. In order to achieve a user friendly layout, two new escalators & a new stairwell where installed requiring extensive structural alterations & additions.
A new deli featuring sandstone tiled walls was built, along with a new produce prep and meat area. A cafe and flower display area feature prominently at the front of the store and can be seen from the street through the large cut in the floor slab.
